Learn the Arabic Alphabet

So you want to learn the Arabic alphabet? There are a few things you need to know.

  1. Arabic is written from right to left, unlike in English. 
  2. The Arabic alphabet has 28 letters.
  3. These letters are joined together in a cursive-like script to form words. Words make sentences. Sentences make paragraphs. Paragraphs make essays.....
  4. These letters may be difficult to pronounce since some are unlike any English sounds. Keep practicing and you will be a master Arabic speaker; I promise!
  5. Most of the lessons you will find on this site will include romanization (how the Arabic word sounds written in English letters). However you will not find store signs, newspapers or spoken word romanized. It may take some practice, but I strongly encourage you to learn how to read and write. After all, you've gotten this far.
